Brocksbushes is a North East and family run farm and their fields are stock full of the latest season produce. For the autumn they grow pumpkins and their patches yield around 150k of them – we had to have a play!

KEY INGREDIENTS & METHOD

Brocksbushes pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, vanilla and allspice distilled into soft base rum. Gently sweetened, lightly coloured.

Seems there’s only one thing to do when you’ve got pumpkin...

We, of course, went for the seasonal flavour combination made famous by certain coffee shops.

While lots of places now serve pumpkins spice flavour treats in the Autumn time, very few actually contain pumpkin. It’s the umbrella terms for the blend of spices typically used to make Pumpkin Pies; cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, vanilla and allspice.

HOWEVER, we couldn’t not have some pumpkin in there too.

We took a beautiful, regionally grown Brocksbushes pumpkin...

We made a puree with it and used this with the warming spice selection. We popped it all in our still and distilled it all with a light base rum which we felt was best to carry these flavours.

We also indulged in a little added sweetness too, to achieve the trademark pumpkin spice vibe that’s become a staple of the Autumn season.

We added a little colour too – not our usual style and not many fess up to adding it, but this spiced rum called for a warm amber hue in our opinion.

We wanted the flavours to come across at a glance while keeping the colourful, lighthearted Moonshiners style... Enter, Rachael Cutmore.

Her bold, fun and uplifting work never fails to bring the whimsy.

Rachael is a fantastic up-and-coming, Newcastle-based artist with several works now exhibited at The Baltic.

We thought of her right away knowing she’d create a playful and striking take on the rum’s ingredients for the label and she did not disappoint! All this pages illustration (as well as all our serve art) is created by her too.
